To welcome Dancing Trout Ale to the Bayern Brewing line of fine beers, an explanation is in order. It’s very likely that
you already know this beer by one or two different names. It began in 1987, when it was known as Bayern Brewing’s
Light Wheat Ale – the filtered version of our original Hefeweizen.
In 2002, Light Wheat Ale took on the personality many Bayern Brewing connoisseurs came to know as Trout Slayer Ale. The beer and the name became quite popular, especially with our outdoor and angling audience. In 2007 we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Bayern Brewing, making us the oldest brewery in Montana. And to honor our time-tested brew, we decided to give Trout Slayer Ale a face lift to best reflect Bayern Brewing’s environmental company philosophy. In our search for a more appropriate name we kept coming back to “Dancing Trout.” Whether as a fishing term or in various spiritual expressions of music and dance, Dancing Trout became a symbol of celebrating life and the lifestyle embraced by Montana. Montana Trout UnlimitedThe name change to Dancing Trout Ale was not merely a cosmetic one. We knew that there was no time like the present to brew a beer with a cause. We presented the idea of making Bayern Brewing’s Dancing Trout Ale the official beer sponsor of Montana Trout Unlimited (www.montanatu.org) and were met with the organization’s immediate support and enthusiasm. Bayern Brewing pledges a portion of all merchandise and every case of beer sold to Montana Trout Unlimited to support the preservation of Montana’s trout habitat. Monte DolackAs Monte is an old friend of Bayern Brewing, having created much of our label art, we approached him with the Dancing Trout Ale concept and asked him to create a fitting image. We think you will agree that only Monte’s creativity could spawn an image like that – pun intended. We believe
the switch from slaying trout to upholding the catch-and-release philosophy was never made easier. And remember,
Dancing Trout Ale is the same high quality Bayern Light Wheat you have enjoyed over the last 20 years. We realize
there are a number of beers out there sporting a trout on their label, but none can compare to Bayern Brewing’s
original quality beer and now our commitment to one of Montana’s most important natural resources – our rivers
and streams. So look for the Dancing Trout when reading the label or the tap handle to make sure you are always
getting the same Bayern Brewing quality product. ©
